After the 3.11 earthquake Rotary Peace Fellow Anne Kjær Riechert was evacuated out of Japan. Leaving her friends and fellow Japanese behind left Anne feeling like she had to do something to assist with the recovery, even though she was overseas. In just five days she got the local mayor and the entire community of Nes, her small village in Norway activated. Together they put on a fundraising event at the local culture centre on April 2nd. The event raised approx. 4000 USD in one afternoon, in a village of only 3000 people. When Anne returned back to Japan she was invited by Karen Makishima, a diet elective fro LDP, to present the project to a crowd of 200 politicians in Hakone.
